The town around Matsushima Bay has changed a lot over the years, now featuring more shops and nice cafes. It doesn't feel overly touristy in a cheesy way, despite being a popular destination. However, many shops and attractions close early, some as early as 3 PM or 4 PM.

- Dancing Cat — A mechanical dancing cat that has been a fixture in Matsushima for at least eight years. It's a quirky and memorable sight that brings a smile to visitors.
- Yakitate Senbei — Freshly baked senbei (rice crackers) are sold at various small shops in Matsushima. You can watch them being cooked right in front of you, offering a warm, crispy treat.
- Zunda Shake · ¥300-¥500 (implied) — A local specialty of the Sendai and Miyagi Prefecture area, this soybean milkshake is thick and incredibly good. It's a must-try if you visit the region, often described as the best one you'll have.
