Conquering the Monster Gyoza Challenge
This is the absolute worst food challenge I've ever undertaken. You have to order this terrifyingly large, 5.5-pound dumpling, stuffed full of minced pork and cabbage, two days in advance. The challenge is to eat it within a 60-minute timeframe. If you finish it, you get your money back, but if you get sick while eating it, there's a 30,000 yen fine. It costs 9,600 yen to even try. My strategy was to start from the back, while Natsuki went for the end, stripping the minced pork and leaving the batter. After 20 minutes, it starts to make you want to cry, even though it's initially delicious. My knife and fork kept getting stuck in the thick batter, like sticking them into a car tire. I ended up adopting Natsuki's strategy of eating the minced pork first. It's a truly horrific experience, and by the end, I didn't want to think about food ever again.
