Kobe in a Day: Mountains to Port

“This video shows you how to travel around Kobe efficiently and visit the must-see places in just one day, covering everything from the herb gardens in the mountains to the port area and night views.”

Experience · 1 place
Ride the Shin-Kobe Ropeway for city and sea views
Take the ropeway up the mountain to the herb gardens. It's a 10-minute ride, and you get amazing views of the city, the sea, and nature. I even got my tripod out to take lots of photos and videos. You can purchase a return ticket for ¥1,400 or a one-way ticket for ¥900. Alternatively, you can hike up in about an hour if you prefer.

Stroll through Nunobiki Herb Gardens and enjoy a foot bath
From the top station of the ropeway, take a nice stroll down to the middle station, enjoying all the flowers and herbs along the way. There's a lovely cafe with great views of Kobe City. You can end your visit by soaking your feet in the foot bath. I recommend spending at least 2 hours here to fully enjoy the area.

Savor Kobe Beef Teppanyaki for lunch
Head to Steakland, right outside Sannomiya Station, for lunch. The restaurant has a VIP casino-like interior, and the cool thing is you can always see the chef prepare your meal right in front of you. I went with their lunch set, which offers quality Kobe beef at a reasonable price. While it tasted really good, it wasn't a 'wow' experience, so for that, you might need to try the more expensive options. Go right when it opens or when it's nearly closing to avoid queues.

Enjoy free night views from Kobe City Hall's 24th floor
For beautiful night views of Kobe, head to the 24th floor of Kobe City Hall. It's a great and free place to see the city lights. You can even have a meal here while enjoying the panoramic night view. After dinner, I decided to walk back to the port side to enjoy the illuminated night view up close.
