A Randomly Exciting Day in Kumamoto
“What a splendid day it's been. We've seen the largest active volcano in Japan, we've eaten a horse, and we've been to Teletubby land. It's been a rather randomly exciting day, I've really enjoyed my time in Kumamoto.”

Creator's voice- Polystyrene dome room — These unique dome rooms are 7 meters in diameter with 40 square meters of space, featuring en suite bathrooms and air conditioning. Their sturdy polystyrene design meant not a single one was damaged in the 2016 earthquake. The walls are 20cm thick polyurethane foam.
- Tabaccotage smoking area — A cleverly branded smoking area within the village, a portmanteau of 'tobacco' and 'cottage'. It quickly became my favorite word.
- Royal dome section — The 'royal' section of the domes features real stone walls, unlike the plastic-looking ones often found in Japan. The effort and detail are impressive, making these domes feel more luxurious.
- Japanese-style garden at Royal 74 — Royal 74, a specific dome, boasts a very large and elaborate Japanese-style garden, which is considered large by the standards of the dome village gardens.

Trying Kumamoto's raw horse meat sashimi (basashi)
- Basashi (raw horse meat sashimi) — Kumamoto's most famous dish, also known as sakuraniku (cherry blossom meat) due to its pink color. It's high in protein, low in calories, and has a sweet flavor with a low-melting-point fat. The creator describes it as tasting like tuna when eaten with eyes closed. It's served cold with garlic and onions. The creator rates it 8/10.
- Horse mane (neck) sashimi — This white cut from the horse's neck is described as a bit tough, hard, and chewy, making it the least favorite cut for the creator.

He's worth a billion dollars to the local economy and is often ranked as Japan's most popular mascot. His widespread fame is due to his cuteness and Kumamoto Prefecture's licensing policy, which allows anyone to use him on merchandise to promote the region. The creator finds him 'utterly terrifying' but acknowledges his commercial success. He's also 'quite hot' on a sunny day.
