Locking Love at a Cliffside Lover's Sanctuary
We stumbled upon this 'lover's sanctuary' halfway to Joetsu, perched on a beautiful cliff. It's a romantic spot with lots of chains and love hearts, though some of the rusty chains look a bit sinister. We added our own padlock, 'Joey and Chris love the 80s,' to the fence, planning to throw the key into the ocean. It's a unique place to take in the view and leave a mark, even if our key surprisingly unlocked many other locks!
- Giant praying mantis — We spotted a massive praying mantis at the lover's sanctuary, the biggest I've ever seen! It felt fitting given the romantic setting, considering female mantises eat the males after reproduction.

Lunch and a Pirate Museum at Fisherman's Wharf
We stopped for lunch at Fisherman's Wharf, which has a museum that feels like walking onto the set of Pirates of the Caribbean. There's a cool treasure chest that really caught our eye. The best part is the fresh sashimi – it's incredibly delicious, a real benefit of cycling along the Sea of Japan. I devoured it so quickly because I love sashimi like no tomorrow!
