Experience the flying dango
Genbikei's specialty is the "flying dango." Put 500 yen in the basket and signal by hitting it with a mallet. The dango shop on the opposite shore pulls up a rope, and your ordered dango and tea come down to you. It's said that the tea reaches you without spilling due to years of experience. Note that it's closed during winter, so check the website before visiting.

Geibikei Gorge

Considered one of Japan's 100 most scenic views, this 2km long valley was created by the Satetsu River eroding limestone. Cliffs over 100 meters high line the riverbank, forming a fantastic deep mountain valley designated as a national scenic spot. It's the only place in Japan where you can go back and forth on a river using just one rod.

Shishigahana rock — As you go up the river, you'll land before turning around and see the rock called "Shishigahana," which is the origin of Geibikei's name.
Throwing Undama — There's a famous spot where you can throw "Undama" (lucky stones) into a hole in the cliff. It's believed that if your stone goes into the hole, your wish might come true! Give it a try.

Relaxing boat ride through Geibikei Gorge
Take a relaxing boat ride through Geibikei Gorge, where you can see seasonal scenery like fresh greenery and bright autumn leaves, as well as spot-billed ducks and fish in the calm river. It's very soothing to spend time looking up at the towering cliffs from below. Many people visit again and again to see the scenery of each season. On the return trip, the boatman sings "Geibi Oiwake," which creates a beautiful harmony with the sound of the clear stream.
