A stunning gorge in Miyazaki, famous for its beauty and unique geology. Its jointed column walls were formed 90,000 years ago by the volcanic eruption of Mt. Aso. It's a great place to get lost in Japan's natural landscapes. Boat riding is a popular activity, though sometimes unavailable due to high water levels.

- Longhorn beetle (Kamikiri-mushi) — A large beetle found in the gorge, known for its strong jaw that can easily break branches and cause bleeding if it bites. Best observed from a distance.
- Sturgeon (Butterfly sharks) — These fish, also known as butterfly sharks in Japanese, are found in the gorge and are reportedly being grown for caviar production.
- Butterflies mud-puddling — Butterflies gather in groups to suck liquids from the mud, gaining essential nutrients, salts, and amino acids. While appearing cute, they are also known to puddle on less appealing substances like rotten fruit, dung, carrion, human sweat, tears, and even blood.

Crossing the Aya Teruha Suspension Bridge
Walk across the Aya Teruha Suspension Bridge, which is 142 meters high and 250 meters long. At one point, you're forced to step on grating, which can be a bit unnerving if you're not good with heights. The bridge sways, adding to the thrill, and you can see a massive shadow it casts below.

A 250-meter long, 142-meter high suspension bridge that connects a nature center to a small shrine and pilgrimage trail. The area encourages visitors to feel closer to nature and study wildlife. The pilgrimage trail on the other side is not recommended for climbing in summer.

Throwing lucky stones at Udo Jingu
At Udo Jingu, you can throw small stones into a target rock in the ocean for good luck. Men are supposed to use their left hand, and women their right. The goal is to make the stone stay within the circle. It's harder than it looks, as the stones often break apart upon impact, but if you get one in, it's a great feeling!

A unique shrine built into a cliffside cave, with a long path supposedly built by travelers bringing stones from the port over centuries. The center stones are visibly worn down from countless footsteps. It's known for a legend involving a water monster and a rock that drips water, believed to aid childbirth.
