Takayama Day Trip & Gero Onsen Stay
“We spent the day in Takayama, exploring the old quarter and the retro museum, then drove to Gero Onsen for a relaxing night in a ryokan with a private hot spring. It's a perfect combination of traditional town exploration and hot spring relaxation.”

Creator's voice- Hida Wagyu Beef on a Skewer · ¥1000 — A5 grade Hida wagyu sirloin steak, served on a skewer as street food for as little as 1,000 yen (about $10). It's described as juicy, buttery smooth, and melts in your mouth, with just a bit of salt. A 'lunch of kings' that makes up for previous unpleasant meals.

It fills with natural spring water from the Gero springs, known for smoothing the skin. It's spacious enough for two people and offers a comfortable, relaxing soak. Guests must wash their bodies before entering, as per onsen etiquette.
- Large Ryokan Room — A surprisingly large room for a Japanese inn, featuring two beds, a general seating area with a TV, and a giant table for in-room dining. It comes with attentive service from a 'lovely elderly butler woman' who serves tea.
- Multi-Course Kaiseki Dinner · ¥25000 (included in stay) — A lavish, multi-course kaiseki banquet served exquisitely in the comfort of the room. It features about 20 different, immaculately presented local dishes, brought in continuously. The menu is written in complicated, formal kanji, adding to the traditional experience. It's described as a 'wonderful meal' that makes one feel like a samurai lord.
Experience hereSoaking in a Private Log OnsenAfter a long day, I finally get to fill up the private onsen in the 'thousand-year-old log' right in our room. The natural spring water from Gero flows straight from the tap, and it's supposed to make your skin smooth. Before jumping in, remember the onsen rule: wash your body thoroughly in the shower corner. Once it's full, it's surprisingly comfy and spacious enough for two. It's a truly relaxing and unique experience, especially after a big kaiseki dinner.
