Finding these wild, free, open-air hot springs is incredibly fun and rewarding, especially when you get a place like this all to yourself. This one, Shikanoyu, is surrounded by beautiful fall colors and an adjacent river, making it even more relaxing. You can even cold plunge in the river if you're brave enough to freeze your limbs off!
- Wild deer — I passed by like 10 deer just walking to the onsen, which makes the name "Deer Onsen" (Shikanoyu) very fitting. It's a beautiful encounter in nature.
- Adjacent river cold plunge — For the adventurous, you can cold plunge in the adjacent river right next to the hot spring. It's a refreshing contrast if you feel like freezing your limbs off!
