Head to Amerikamura, Osaka's 'America town,' a dynamic and vibrant neighborhood that's been a center of Japanese youth culture for over 40 years. It's a great place to drink in public, which is common and legal in Japan. Grab some of the potent 9% alcohol drinks from a convenience store – two cans of this stuff and you'll be 'straight off to Narnia.' We successfully blended in and were invited to join some friendly students who taught us some Osaka dialect, like 'aho' for stupid.

Next up, visit a retro video game bar. These places are becoming rarer, so try to visit one while they still exist. You can sit down, drink, and relax while playing classic games like Bomberman on a Super Famicom (SNES). It feels more like being at a friend's house than a typical bar. I even managed to win a game of Bomberman, which felt like a true victory!

You absolutely cannot come to Osaka without trying Takoyaki, the city's most popular dish. You'll find stands on almost every street corner, often smelling the sweet, sizzling batter before you see them. These are fried octopus balls, typically served with salt or Worcestershire sauce, mayonnaise, and fish flakes. Be warned: they are incredibly hot inside, like 'molten uranium,' so you'll need to cool them down, perhaps by letting them linger in the breeze like Pete did!

End your night with karaoke, a classic Japanese experience. In Japan, you get a private room or booth with a touchscreen panel to select your songs. Many places offer 'nomihoudai' (all-you-can-drink) for about 2000 yen ($20) for two hours, which is a great deal. You can also get food like fried chicken delivered right to your room. It's a perfect way to relax, sing, and have fun for a couple of hours, even if you lose your voice like I did after 90 minutes!
