Climbing Mount Fuji via the Fujinomiya Trail
Ascend Mount Fuji, Japan's tallest mountain at 3,776 meters. The Fujinomiya trail is steeper and rockier than the popular Fuji Yoshida Trail, but it's far less crowded, allowing for a more personal pace. Be prepared for rapidly changing weather, low oxygen at the peak, and a tough, vertical climb, especially after 3,000 meters. Bring plenty of 100-yen coins for mountain toilets (¥200 per use) and be ready for expensive drinks (water is ¥350 at station 6, up to ¥500 at higher stations). The descent is also challenging due to slippery volcanic ash and rocks, making falls common. The entire climb and descent can take around 18 hours.

Fujinomiya Trail — This trail is a less busy alternative to the popular Fuji Yoshida Trail, with about a quarter of the foot traffic. It's steeper and rockier, making the descent particularly challenging and prone to injuries, but it offers plenty of mountain huts. It's unshielded from southern winds, so weather can be unforgiving.
Water from vending machine · ¥350-¥500 — Water prices increase significantly with altitude. At Mountain Station 6, a bottle costs about ¥350 (around $3), rising to ¥500 (around $4) by Station 8 or 9. Bring plenty of money, especially coins.
Premium Boss Coffee — At 3,460 meters, the cheapest drink option available from vending machines is this 'disgusting' Premium Boss Coffee.
Apple juice — A 'rather tasty' apple juice is another option from the vending machines at higher altitudes, alongside the Premium Boss Coffee.
Cup noodles at summit · ¥800 — A cheap cup noodle brand, but described as 'the best hot noodle that I've ever had' due to extreme hunger and cold at the summit. It costs ¥800, four times its normal price.
Udon noodles at summit — Natsuki's choice for a summit meal, described as 'fatty noodles.'
Mount Fuji crater — The creator describes the crater as 'absolutely gigantic' and 'creepy looking,' noting that it last erupted in 1707 and is said to be overdue.

Pre-climb view of Mount Fuji from Lake Kawaguchiko
Arrive at Lake Kawaguchiko the day before your climb, around 5 p.m. as the sun sets, to catch a rare, clear view of Mount Fuji. In summer, it's often shrouded in haze, so this clear view is a special treat that builds excitement for the ascent.
