Creator's voice- Long Black coffee — I need coffee in the morning, and their long black is rich and delicious.
- Lemon cake — The lemon cake here is good, with a nice balance of acidity and bitterness. The icing on top creates a beautiful harmony of tartness and sweetness.
- Decaf latte from Guatemala — Their decaf latte, made with coffee from Guatemala, is really good – so creamy, rich, and delicious.
- Mini Lamingtons (matcha, chocolate, vanilla) — These mini Lamingtons are so cute! The outside is shredded coconut, and the inside is a super moist sponge cake with a layer of jam. The matcha flavor is subtle and delicious. I love the mini size because you can try three different flavors.
2TakakurayaJapanese grocery store · Kyoto4.3 (112)Open · until 5:30 PMTakakura-Ya, 289-2 Higashidaimonjicho, Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, 604-8043, Japan
Creator's voice- Mizu Nasu (water eggplant) pickle · ¥300 — This raw eggplant pickle is really good, better than I expected! It has a fresh, natural eggplant flavor with saltiness only on the skin side, creating two layers of flavor. It's very refreshing.
- Lightly pickled cucumber · ¥200 — This is a very popular dish in Japan. It has a nice crispiness and perfect saltiness. Unlike some pickles that become soft, this one stays crunchy and is very fun to eat.
3Miki KeiranDeli · Kyoto3.9 (352)Open · until 5 PMMiki Keiran, 182 Higashiuoyacho, Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, 604-8055, Japan
Creator's voice- Dashi egg sandwich — This beautiful egg omelet sandwich is made with Kyoto's specialty dashi broth. The egg flavor and dashi combine really well, and it's incredibly fluffy. The bread is also fluffy, making for a nice texture. It tastes even better than it looks, with a depth and complexity from the dashi that's not too strong or salty. Very expertly made tamagoyaki.
4Sushi Roll ShopSushi restaurant · Kyoto4.8 (154)Open · until 8:30 PMJapan, 〒604-8125 Kyoto, Nakagyo Ward, Nakauoyacho, 510 SUSHI ROLL SHOP
Creator's voice- Matcha latte — This matcha latte is delicious and has a tinge of salty flavor, which I believe comes from the chef's special shio koji.
- Spring barley craft beer — This spring barley craft beer from Japan is one of our favorites. It's full of umami.
- Cooked tuna sushi roll — This roll is filled with cooked tuna, lettuce, avocado, and cucumber, topped with sesame seeds. The sushi rice is perfectly cooked with a nice vinegar taste, and the crispy cucumber adds a fun texture. The tuna has a lot of umami. They also offer gluten-free and vegan soy sauce.
- Vegan teriyaki tofu sushi roll — This roll features tofu with homemade teriyaki sauce, made with vegan and gluten-free soy sauce and unrefined sugar, along with cucumber, lettuce, and white and black sesame seeds. It's incredibly flavorful, so much so that I don't miss fish at all. The tofu is soft inside but firmer outside, and the vegetables are very fresh and crispy.
- Truffle sushi roll — This signature sushi roll features truffle, sour cream, salmon, and king fish. The chef shaves truffle and sprinkles truffle oil on top right in front of you, creating an amazing aroma. The truffle aroma is immediately present, and the sour cream and salmon are a perfect match, with a little acidity from the sour cream.
- Wagyu beef sukiyaki sushi roll — This premium sushi roll is filled with egg, sukiyaki meat, and lettuce, topped with more Wagyu beef that's seared at the last minute. It has so much flavor from the sukiyaki sauce and slightly sweet soy sauce, and the Wagyu melts in your mouth. The egg acts as a nice accent. I love how the rice is seasoned with a prominent, sour vinegar flavor.

Creator's voice- 60 chocolate gelato — This chocolate gelato uses cacao beans harvested within 60 days. It's malty, with almost a molasses-like flavor, making it very interesting, complex, and rich.
- Aomori apples gelato — This seasonal gelato tastes exactly like eating a frozen Aomori apple. Aomori apples are famous for being naturally sweet with almost no tartness.
- White coffee gelato — This interesting gelato is made from coffee brewed in milk overnight. It tastes like a delicious milk coffee.
- Yamagata cherry gelato — This is a very limited item made with Sato Nishiki cherries from Yamagata, my hometown. It has a nice natural tartness and sweetness, and I'm very happy I can eat it this season.

Creator's voice- Kyoto local sake tasting set — Kyoto is famous for Japanese sake, and they offer a local sake tasting set. I tried the Jurakudai junmai ginjo, which is premium, quite boozy, but also sweet, fruity, and delicious.
- Sakura salty dog cocktail — This pretty cocktail uses Aphrodite liquor with shimmering pearl powder, which is not normally sold in stores, making it quite rare. It's sweet, fruity, and has a hint of cherry blossom aroma, with real cherry blossoms floating inside.
- Seasonal vegetables Kyoto style steamed with ponzu sauce — Kyoto is known for its vegetables. This dish features seasonal vegetables like lotus root and napa cabbage, steamed Kyoto style and served with ponzu sauce. The lotus root has a nice crispiness, and the ponzu adds umami. The steamed napa cabbage is really tasty.
- Salmon avocado crispy sushi on skewers — A very interesting deep-fried sushi dish, beautifully presented on skewers. It features salmon, avocado, edible flowers, green onions, and a special sauce. It's crispy, crunchy, and warm, with wonderful flavors and a variety of textures, including the smoothness of avocado and the crispiness of the sushi rice. The salmon is fresh and fatty.
- Vegan omakase sushi silver platter — This platter of four vegan sushi pieces is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen, truly an artwork. It includes grilled maitake mushroom with deep-fried lotus root, deep-fried tofu with teriyaki, teriyaki eggplant, and avocado, often with ginger and a special sauce. The deep-fried tofu is not oily, crispy, and matches the sweet and savory teriyaki sauce perfectly. The maitake mushroom sushi has lots of umami and is a very good combination. The avocado sushi is very creamy, almost like a cream of avocado, enhanced by an orange sauce.
- Signature chicken leg ramen — This ramen has an incredible view, with a whole chicken leg on top! The broth is chicken-flavored, served with a boiled egg and Kujo Negi (local green onion). The soup is delicious with good chicken flavor and a nice sweetness. The thin, straight, slightly flat noodles have a nice chewiness and absorb the soup perfectly. The chicken leg is big, roasted, juicy, and crispy outside, combining wonderfully with the chicken broth to give a good umami.
- Vegan spicy tan tan ramen — This vegan spicy tan tan ramen looks really delicious. It's spicy, just the right amount, very sesame, and full of umami. It's so flavorful that I don't miss meat at all. The noodles have red specs from chili, permeating the whole bowl. It's creamy, spicy, and flavorful, satisfying even meat-eaters. It includes bok choy, Kujo Negi, deep-fried tofu skins (aburaage), and a black sesame seed paste. I also taste a little bit of yuzu in the soup, making it very well balanced.
