A Buddhist temple built into the side of a cliff, originally more than a thousand years ago, enlarging a natural cave. The current temple building dates to 1961, but the site's history goes back 1200 years, commemorating a victory by General Sakanoue Tamuramaro over the Emishi people in 801 CE. It's a neat and beautiful stop, taking about 10-15 minutes to explore.
