Explore Sakaiminato's Yokai World

“I recommend taking the Kitaro Train to Sakaiminato Station, which is the entrance to Mizuki Shigeru Road. It's a fun way to start your journey into the Yokai World, where you can then explore the road, find your favorite goods, and enjoy delicious Yokai-themed gourmet treats.”

Ride the Kitaro Train
My top recommendation is the Kitaro Train! It runs from Yonago Station to Sakaiminato Station, which is where Mizuki Shigeru Road is located. The train cars are colorful and uniquely decorated with 'GeGeGe no Kitaro' Yokai characters on the outside and inside. The platform itself has a great atmosphere with bronze statues of Kitaro and Karasu Tengu. The journey takes about 45 minutes, and it's a local train, so you can relax and enjoy the scenic countryside views. It's a fun way to travel, and I'd love to try riding trains with other Yokai characters too!

The gateway to Mizuki Shigeru Road. Even before you step onto the road, the station area is already part of the Yokai World, featuring bronze statues of Shigeru Mizuki at his desk, Kitaro, and Nezumi Otoko.

An 800-meter-long street in Sakaiminato, the hometown of manga artist Shigeru Mizuki, famous for his 'GeGeGe no Kitaro' series. The road is lined with bronze statues of Yokai characters like Kitaro, Medama-oyaji, and Nezumi Otoko, creating a unique 'Yokai World' atmosphere. It's a fantastic place to immerse yourself in the world of Yokai.

- Yokai merchandise — Mizuki Shigeru Road is packed with Yokai-themed souvenirs and goods! You can find items like Ittan Momen body pillows, Nurikabe bags, T-shirts, towels, and straps. There are also many handmade original goods, so it's really fun to browse through all the different shops.
- Yokai character manju — These are steamed buns decorated with Yokai characters like Kitaro and Medama-oyaji. They're delicious and almost too cute to eat!
- Kitaro-themed senbei — These are rice crackers featuring illustrations of Yokai like Sunakake Babaa and Konaki Jijii. They're also very tasty!
- Yokai Latte — A unique cafe latte with Yokai characters drawn on the foam using cocoa powder. You can find Kitaro, Neko Musume, Ittan Momen, and about five other designs. They're so cute you almost don't want to drink them, but the latte itself is quite good!
