Exploring Matsue Castle
We arrived at Matsue Castle, a national treasure, and started exploring the grounds. It's a black, Momoyama-style castle, which is apparently characteristic of that period. We tried to find our way around, but it was surprisingly difficult to navigate, almost like a 'castle siege' in itself! We eventually found the entrance to the main keep, which costs 800 yen, but decided to just take photos from the free areas. It was a good workout and a great way to see the city. The views from the castle grounds were fantastic.

Relaxing at Dormy Inn Express Matsue's Sauna
After exploring Matsue Castle, we checked into the Dormy Inn Express Matsue. I immediately hit the sauna, doing three sets. It was amazing, especially with the view of Shinjiko Lake from the bath. It was the perfect way to relax and prepare for the big dinner ahead. I even managed to squeeze in a nap before dinner.

Despite the massive dinner at TROMPETTE, the Dormy Inn's complimentary Yonaki Soba (night noodles) was too tempting to pass up. The soy-based soup is light yet rich with chicken and pork umami, and the thin, curly noodles are incredibly satisfying. It's the perfect way to end the day, even if you're already full.

Praying at Izumo Taisha
We visited Izumo Taisha, one of Japan's most important shrines, especially for matchmaking. We followed the traditional 2 bows, 4 claps, 1 bow ritual. The atmosphere was incredibly serene, even on a weekday morning. We couldn't film inside the main areas out of respect, but just being there and offering our prayers was a special experience. I even bought an 'enmusubi' (matchmaking) charm for myself, and a health charm for my family.

Visiting Inasa no Hama
After lunch, we took a short walk to Inasa no Hama, a sacred beach just a few minutes from Izumo Taisha. It's a beautiful, calm beach with a small island (Bentenjima) that's part of the shrine's protective deities. It was a peaceful and scenic spot, a perfect way to round off our visit to Izumo.
