Cycling the Takatsu River
Start your day cycling upstream along the Takatsu River, known as Japan's most beautiful river. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous, making it worth coming here just for the ride. The route is about 60-70km (37-43 miles) and offers superb countryside views. You can even download my Strava course map to follow along. The road is neat and tidy, offering ideal cycling conditions.

Climbing to Taikodani Inari Shrine
Prepare for a serious climb to Taikodani Inari Shrine! You can go up by road bike, but the steps are harder, especially with clipless shoes. It's a challenging ascent, but the view from the top is incredible, with loads of orange roofs making the scenery special. Don't forget to get an Omikuji (fortune-telling slip) – I got Daikichi (the best fortune), which advised me to 'Explore a little further afield by bike'!

Sake tasting at Kasen Shuzo
Visit Kasen Shuzo, a sake brewery that has been operating since the Edo era. They gave me a special tour, showing the well, the stove where they start the process in mid-November, the rice press machine, and the fermentation space. After the tour, I got to taste several different types of sake. The first one was quite dry and clear, which I really liked. Each sake had a distinct flavor, making it a very interesting experience.
