Ride the Miyajima Ropeway to Shishiiwa Observatory
Start your journey up Mount Misen at the Miyajima Ropeway. I recommend going early before the crowds build around noon, and always check the information desk for current wait times and operating status. The cabins were redesigned in March 2026 for the first time in 17 years, taking you smoothly above the forest to the Shishiiwa Observatory, which offers a completely different perspective of the island.

Hike to Mount Misen Summit past ancient rocks
Don't stop at Shishiiwa Observatory! Hike another 30 minutes past Mount Misen Hondo and giant rock formations to reach the summit. The higher you go, the quieter it feels, and the scenery along the way is absolutely beautiful. Honestly, every step was worth it for the incredible views that open up beneath you, with the islands of the Seto Inland Sea stretching towards the horizon. Wear comfortable shoes and allow extra time to enjoy the peaceful trail.
