We began the day super early, walking from our hotel to Ninen-zaka and Sannen-zaka streets in the Gion District to see this iconic view. It truly feels like you are stepping back in time; it's so beautiful here.

Walking the thousands of torii gates at Fushimi Inari
We took the metro over to Fushimi Inari, famous for its thousands of torii gates. While you'll want to get an early start here, the key to avoiding crowds is to walk up and up the mountain until there's barely any people. It's so peaceful and serene up there.

After happy hour, we headed up to the very popular Kiyomizu-dera Temple for sunset, with what felt like every other tourist in Kyoto. While it was gorgeous at this time of day, it really was so crowded.
