Ride the Kurobe Gorge Trolley Train
Take the nostalgic Torokko (trolley) train for an 80-minute journey through the absolutely breathtaking Kurobe Gorge. The open-air carriages offer incredible views of Japan's deepest gorges. I traveled more than three hours from Tokyo to see this, and it was definitely worth it! Just be careful when you visit: mid-October to mid-November is peak season for stunning autumn foliage but it gets very busy, as do national holidays like Golden Week. You can book tickets on the official Kurobe Gorge Railway website up to 3 months in advance.
