Hiking the Jigokudani Trails
Dealing with the strong rotting egg smell from the sulfur is totally worth it for the incredible views of the volcanic landscape. The two tracks we did are easy enough for a six-year-old and a very unfit adult to do both at one go. My daughter, Evie, initially refused to go, dramatically saying she was too tired, but as soon as she saw the view, she started running around. Just be aware that some longer trails might be closed due to ice, as ours was. Bring a shawl to hide your face when the smell gets really bad!

We loved Jigokudani so much that we even returned for a night walk to see how it looks with the lit-up pathway. It's a completely different experience at night, offering a unique perspective of the steaming valley.
