Before visiting Izumo Taisha, come to Inasa Beach. First, pray to Benzaiten on Bentenjima Island, the small island with a torii gate right on the beach. After praying, collect some sand from Inasa Beach. Then, when you visit Izumo Taisha, you'll exchange this sand for sand from the back of the shrine. This ritual is said to be very beneficial for warding off bad luck and bringing good fortune for the year. I highly recommend trying it out!
