The Great Buddha’s annual cleaning (Ominugui) Every year on the morning of August 7th, 120 monks and volunteers clean the Daibutsu. They first purify themselves at the temple bathhouse, then put on white ritual clothing and chant a sutra to remove the Buddha’s spirit before cleaning. Come with me to the Ghibli Museum!🌱 Located at Inokashira Park in Mitaka, Tokyo, the Ghibli Museum showcases the work of Hayao Miyazaki and his Japanese animation studio Studio Ghibli! The museum includes a replica of the Catbus from My Neighbor Totoro, a café, bookstore, rooftop garden, and a theater for exclusive short films by Studio Ghibli. I went in November during “The Boy and the Heron Special Exhibition” and got to see various drawing of the film (and many others). This place is a must for Studio Ghibli fans! Tickets are ¥1,000 (~$7) and go on sale at 10 a.m. (JST) on the 10th of each month for the following month. You are also not allowed to film inside the museum! I thought I had it…. Embarrassing much, lol, but Japan owes me nothing after this experience 🥴😂 STORY TIME: so the onlookers attempted to help me pull through this hole and the Nara Park police was going to be called for assistance to get me out. If you don't know this hole in the Todai ji pillar is called the "Buddha's Nostril," it's a small opening (said to be the size of the Great Buddha's nostril) at the base of this large wooden pillar, believed to grant enlightenment or good fortune to those who crawl through it, a popular challenge for visitors, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN, seeking good luck in their next life.
