At Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, the cenotaph, eternal flame, and Atomic Bomb Dome are aligned to guide visitors through remembrance, responsibility, and reflection. The cenotaph holds the names of more than 300,000 victims, a list that continues to grow. Each year on August 6, people gather at the Hiroshima memorial for the anniversary ceremony. Names are read, prayers are offered, and at 8:15 a.m., a moment of silence marks the exact time the atomic bomb detonated. That evening, thousands of lanterns are released onto the river in memory of lives lost. Hiroshima rebuilt around ground zero, not to erase what happened, but to ensure it could never be ignored.
